I hear many people say that reading to kids would be good for their vocabulary and especially when they don't speak yet. Yes, my little monster Joaquin doesn't talk yet but he babbles more syllables aside from ma-ma and beeeee. He seems to speak a different language when he tries to talk. Before, I just read to him whenever I can because sometimes I would just like to lay down and rest, but now I see to it that I read a book at least twice a day. Ever since I started the twice-a-day books, that's when I hear him babble more and tries to talk instead of us looking as if we were trying to play the game charades. I guess I should've done this sooner, at least I started :)
Anyway going back to the review, I personally like the books by Amber Stewart & Layn Marlow. Aside from the length of the story, (I usually finish just in time little monster finishes his milk and asleep. I always wait for him to finish his milk because I always follow him up with water even he's already sleeping, so the milk will be washed out his mouth, good for his teeth), I really like the message of the story and plan to collect the other 3 books, especially the "Puddles, Big Step" when he starts school and have his teacher write a message.
This would be nice to be read by a dad. Just because I'm a full-time mom doesn't mean I do everything alone. I make sure that every activity Joaquin engages to, his dad would also participate or attend. That's what we talked about most especially those 'firsts'.
These are the books we have:
I got this book because in a few days it's going to be his 2nd birthday. I also plan making this book like a guestbook or a message book from us parents, grandparents and godparents. I think I will do this kind of tradition every birthday. Pick out a birthday book and have everyone dear to him write a message.
This book I think he could totally relate to since instead of the cloth, he has his frog. He has a hard time sleeping without Froggy and brings Froggy anywhere he goes.
